Jeff Buckley or Kate Voegele?

p>So this is the last post I’ll make regarding Kate for a little while, but I just have to ask what ya’ll think…Do you like Jeff’s version better? Or Kate’s version better? I can’t decide, because I love Kate’s cover, but Jeff Buckley is just awesome too, and he is the one who sang it first!!! lol So you guy’s tell me what you think!

Sorry, but the video version had embedding disabled, and the live version was poor quality, his voice kept fading in and out. So here is just the song, I think he does it beautifully as well.
And, in the interests of fairness, I didn’t post a video of her singing this song, just of her singing in the back ground as well! :)

    Hi k0zm0z,

I have to put in a word for Leonard Cohen. He wrote the song and so was really the first to record it. I still like his version the very best, although Jeff and Kate do a fabulous job too. It’s such a great song, a bit complicated, so you have to be pretty good to do it justice. They certainly do.

Great site. A lot of passion. Thanks.

Deb, I’ll have to see if I can find Leonard’s version to post up here, I don’t even think I have heard his..lol Sad I know, I would never even have heard Jeff’s if I hadn’t loved Kate’s so much! They are in competition for search hits on YouTube, which is how I heard it at all. Although to be fair, the original artist almost always has a little something extra in my opinion. I think mainly because they are so invested in the song, whether it is because they wrote it themselves, or because they were the first to vocalize it and it really means something to them. But then again, artists who cover songs have a little something extra at times too, because why bother to cover a song at all, unless it is one that hits close to home and really resonates with the artist, right? At least that’s my opinion. I only sing songs that move me or that I identify with in some way. :) And Hallelujah is one of my favorite songs to sing!!!
